Russian aviation regulator’s chief appointed transport minister

Rosaviatsia head Dmitry Yadrov succeeds Andrei Nikitin who has been named deputy prime minister.
Russian transport minister Andrei Nikitin has been appointed deputy prime minister, and will be succeeded by the chief of federal air transport regulator Rosaviatsia, Dmitry Yadrov.

Nikitin had taken over as transport minister in July last year, after the dismissal and sudden death of Roman Starovoit.

His candidacy for the deputy prime minister position had been approved by the Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament, and subsequently confirmed by Russian president Vladimir Putin.

The ministry says Nikitin will “oversee the development of the country’s transport complex”.

His replacement as transport minister, Dmitry Yadrov, has led Rosaviatsia for three years, having been named to the post in September 2023.

While in charge the regulator certified the Ilyushin Il-114-300 and the Aviadvigatel PD-8 engine.

“Civil aviation is not showing any dangerous trends in flight safety,” states Rosaviatsia. “It is rated as acceptable.

Yadrov’s appointment to the transport ministry has been formalised by presidential decree.

He says Nikitin has “strengthened” the ministry’s team. “I am confident that we will continue this work and achieve all the objectives set for the transport sector by the president and the government,” he adds.

According to a draft three-year transport budget newly presented to the Duma, aviation activities will be allocated Rb298 billion ($3.6 billion).
