SAS EuroBonus Status Match Expands Country List, With Tiers Priced From €39

SAS EuroBonus has revised the country list for its limited-time status match, opening applications to residents of more than 80 countries. The paid match lets eligible frequent flyer members move into EuroBonus Silver, Gold or Diamond, with status lasting through the rest of their current membership year and a further 12 months.

The updated eligibility list excludes residents of China, Brazil and Argentina. The earlier version of the offer had also named Hong Kong and Taiwan among the excluded locations; neither appears in the current eligible list. SAS and StatusMatch can end the offer at any time, and the number of matches is limited.

For frequent flyers able to use the benefits, the long validity period is the main attraction. A successful applicant doesn’t need to complete a flight challenge to receive the new tier. The fee depends on the requested level and, for residents of Poland and India, is substantially lower.

Where residents can apply

The revised list covers Afghanistan, Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bermuda, Bhutan, Bosnia, Brunei, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, the Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Greenland, Guernsey, Hungary, Iceland, India, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jersey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, the Maldives, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, the Netherlands, North Korea, Norway, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, the Svalbard and Jan Mayen Islands, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Turkmenistan, the United States, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, the Vatican and Yemen.

Applicants must live in a listed country and hold elite status with an airline included in the match. Status from SkyTeam airlines, Singapore Airlines, TAP Air Portugal and Etihad isn’t accepted. The full eligibility decision rests on the programme’s criteria; some applicants may be asked for identity documents, and the applicant’s name must match the records held in EuroBonus.

Fees and validity

EuroBonus tierStandard feePoland and India residents
Silver€89€39
Gold€199€79
Diamond€349€159

Fees include applicable taxes, and the applicant’s country of residence is checked during the process. An SAS EuroBonus membership number is required; people without one can join the programme before applying. Applicants also need their eligible airline’s frequent flyer status card number and a valid email address.

Once approved, the matched tier runs until the end of the member’s current EuroBonus year, then continues for another 12 months. Standard qualification criteria apply after that period. The status match can’t be used to extend an existing EuroBonus tier, whether that tier was earned through travel or received through an earlier match. If an applicant already holds the tier being requested, the match won’t be completed.

The published terms say most status changes are processed quickly, though the upgraded tier may take as long as 10 business days after StatusMatch approval to appear in the EuroBonus account. StatusMatch handles the applications and is responsible for processing them. The terms also state that application data is shared with SAS and Loyalty Status Co subprocessors for verification.

How other airline tiers map to EuroBonus

The source list spans programmes from Star Alliance, Oneworld and other airline groups. The corresponding status varies by the tier held in the applicant’s existing programme, and not every airline offers a route to all three EuroBonus levels. Where an entry below is blank, the published mapping doesn’t specify a match for that level.

The source mapping also notes that applicants who qualify for Diamond may choose Gold instead. Some listed programmes have unusual or incomplete mappings, so applicants should check the current airline list and terms before paying.

What the three tiers provide

EuroBonus Silver, Gold and Diamond differ most in lounge access, priority handling, baggage and point earning. The published comparison gives Silver a 25% bonus on SAS flights, Gold 50% and Diamond 75%. Discounts on point bookings rise from 5% for Silver to 10% for Gold and 30% for Diamond; SAS upgrade bid values increase by 10%, 20% and 30%, respectively. Diamond points don’t expire, while Silver and Gold follow the standard expiration rules.

At the airport, all three tiers include priority check-in. Silver receives SAS Group 3 boarding, while Gold and Diamond have priority boarding. Gold and Diamond include Fast Track in Scandinavia and access to SAS lounges, with a guest or family member. Gold lounge access on arrival is listed for flights from Asia or North America; Diamond members can use arrival lounges after all SAS flights. Both higher tiers include free Wi-Fi on SAS. Diamond also includes free drinks in Economy for the member and a guest or family, as specified in the benefits chart.

Checked baggage allowances add one extra bag for Silver and two for Gold and Diamond. Gold and Diamond include one 8 kg cabin bag on Economy Light fares. Seat selection is free at check-in for Silver; Gold includes free selection except exit rows, and Diamond includes exit-row seats. Gold and Diamond also receive priority baggage handling.

Other differences include guaranteed seats in Class C for Gold and Diamond, one Silver membership giveaway for Gold, and one Gold plus one Silver giveaway for Diamond. Diamond includes same-day rebooking through the SAS app and waives bonus booking fees through customer service. Gold members can reach lifetime Gold after 10 years, although the terms for the match say the matched year doesn’t count toward lifetime Gold or Diamond. The chart lists no member giveaway card among the benefits delivered through the match.

Outside SAS, the benefits chart assigns Silver SkyTeam Elite status, with priority check-in and boarding. Gold and Diamond are listed as SkyTeam Elite Plus, with SkyPriority, access to more than 750 lounges with one guest, and one extra bag or 20 kg. The chart also lists priority check-in, boarding and baggage with Singapore Airlines for Gold and Diamond, plus SilverKris lounge access with one guest.

The published table says matched members receive tier benefits with exceptions: they don’t receive the membership giveaway card, and time in the matched tier doesn’t count toward lifetime Gold or Diamond. The terms also say that if a Diamond member fails to requalify, SAS typically offers a soft landing to Gold. That keeps a member at the SkyTeam Elite Plus level, although the terms make clear that standard requalification applies after the initial match period.

For travellers who regularly use SAS or SkyTeam, the match’s practical value depends on how often they can use lounge access, priority services and baggage allowances during the validity period. The updated residence list broadens access, but applicants should confirm their country, current airline tier and mapped EuroBonus level on the StatusMatch application page before submitting a paid request.
